Database Restore Decision

Decide whether a verified PostgreSQL restore is safer than retry, roll-forward, or image rollback.

Database restore is a destructive action. Consider it only when the current database is unsafe or incompatible, the backup is verified, the restore point is approved, and the operator accepts loss of data written after that point.

Restoring PostgreSQL does not restore external media automatically. Meilisearch documents can normally be rebuilt from the restored database when source and configuration support it. Redis cache and transient sessions may be discarded with an explicit operational decision.

Explicit approval required

Never restore a database as an automatic response to an application health failure. Preserve current evidence and complete the compatibility and data-loss review first.

Verification

Confirm the backup checksum, restore point, expected data loss, approval, media plan, and derived-search rebuild plan.
